Type (+). There is no need to type a space, as Maple automatically adjusts the spacing for you.

Repeat steps 1 through 4 to type $\frac{3x}{7}$.

Note on Multiplication: In general, you need to indicate multiplication by using * or a space. In 2D math, * appears as a center dot ($\cdot$). In this example, the multiplication of a number by a name is typed as simply 2, then x: $2x$. However, in other cases you will need to make sure to use * or a space. Here are a few examples:
$\left(x\+1\right)\cdot \left(x2\right)$
$x\cdot y$
