Dosage of Lumartem

QUESTION

I am on lumartem treatment,  and was told to take four[4] tablets at a time twice a day;  but I see on leaflet two[2] tablet twice a day…..will it cause me any harm?

ANSWER

The dosage for Lumartem is by weight. For people weighing over 35 kg (77 pounds) the dosage is 4 tablets twice a day as you were prescribed.

    we are in lagos nigeria working at ship i like to know which medicine is suitable for us for prevention of malaria we have onboard lumartem + amalar(sulfadoxine /pyrimethmine usp

      Ideally, to prevent malaria in Nigeria you should take either atovaquine-proguanil (sold as Malarone), doxycycline or mefloquine (sold as Lariam). You should be able to get doxycycline locally – the dose for an adult is 100mg orally, once per day, and you should continue to take it every day for four weeks after you leave the malarial area as well.

    My baby is 11days old and am on Lumartem anti-malarial. Will it have any medical effect on him?

      Lumartem is not usually recommended for infants under 5kg in weight, so you should talk with your pediatrician about the possible effects on your baby.
